Lesinurad is a prescription medication used to lower uric acid. The effect of this medication is to help prevent gout flares or attacks. Increased uric acid levels can cause gout attacks. This drug increases the utilization of hypoxanthine and xanthine for nucleotide and nucleic acid synthesis. It is by a process that involves the enzyme hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase.

This progression results in an increased nucleotide concentration that causes feedback inhibition of de novo purine synthesis. The result is decreased urine and serum uric acid concentrations, which decreases the incidence of gout symptoms.

How is Lesinurad taken?
