There are more than a million known who have recovered from the disease of the new coronavirus around the world. However, the road back to full health is not the same for everybody. The recovery time will depend on how sick you became. Some people will dismiss the illness quickly but for others, it could leave lasting problems.
Most people infected with the virus develop only main symptoms such as fever and cough. They may also experience fatigue, body aches, headache, or sore throat. These mild symptoms are treated with plenty of fluids, bed rest, and pain relief. People experiencing mild symptoms must make a good and quick recovery. In less than a week, the fever must settle and it takes 2 weeks on average to recover.
For some, this infection can be much more serious. It tends to occur about 7-10 days into the infection. The development can be sudden and breathing becomes difficult. The lungs get inflamed as well. It’s being inflamed because it’s overreacting and the body experiences collateral damage. Some patients experiencing this will need to be in the hospital for oxygen therapy. It may take 2-7 weeks to recover.
It will take some time to be fully recovered in an intensive care unit no matter what the condition is. If you are in an intensive care you will be sedated and put on a ventilator.
It is unknown because there is no long-term data yet but we can look for another illness. Acute respiratory distress syndrome develops in patients which causes damage to the lungs whose immune systems go into overdrive. It’s still possible that even in several mild cases, it may leave patients with long-term health problems.
There are lots of speculations but little evidence on how durable any immunity is. If patients have effectively recovered from the virus, they must have built up an immune system response.
If you don’t want to experience any of these, here’s how you can protect yourself and others from being infected:
