This medication is known as a tricyclic antidepressant for its molecular structure.

Elavil (Amitriptyline) belongs to the class of medications known as tricyclic antidepressants. This drug contains Amitriptyline as an active ingredient. It is a white, odorless, and crystalline compound that is freely soluble in water. This medication is supplied as 10mg, 25mg, 50mg, 75mg, 100mg, and 150mg tablets for oral administration. The (Food and Drug Administration) FDA has already approved this medication. 

How to use Elavil (Amitriptyline)?

Elavil (Amitriptyline) is to be taken by mouth with a full glass of water. It is usually taken 1-4 times a day. If you are taking it once daily, take it at bedtime to help reduce daytime sleepiness.

Take it regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Do not use this drug more often or longer than it is prescribed.

The recommended dosage is based on your medical condition and response to the treatment.
