The COVID-19 has changed a lot in our daily routines. Lots of individuals are just at home to avoid exposure. Being at home and being isolated is affiliated with the enticement to eat junk foods or snacks that are high in sodium. Wherein, it provides instant satisfaction rather than nutritious foods. In these times of self-isolation and social distancing, this is a challenge for many.  

With this unprecedented lifestyle shift, we should remain active, be creative, and maintain an active lifestyle in the era of social-distancing. There is still a drastic impact on your daily routine even if you are not affected by the COVID-19. It could destructively affect our overall well-being.


1. Remain Active 

  • Gyms might not be open there are still lots of safe substitutes for physical activity. There are lots of activities that can be done effectively at home.
  • If you avoid crowds, it doesn’t mean you also avoid nature. You can go for a jog or a walk outside. 
  • Sit-ups, push-ups, and jumping jacks are great ways to stay fit even away from the gym.

2. Adequate sleep

Having a good sleep is very important to our overall health. It is recommended that adults aged 18-60 years get seven or more hours of sleep per night.

3. Diet And Nutrition

Practice self-discipline and avoid emotional eating because of stress. Accordingly, whole foods like leafy greens, oranges, and tomatoes are loaded with minerals, fiber, vitamins. Make it a habit to try eating more whole nutritious foods instead of fast food or processed snacks.

4. Healthcare Maintenance

If you have any prescriptions for any condition, make sure to take them as directed by your healthcare provider. 

5. Cope With Anxiety And Stress 

Cope positively with anxiety and stress made by new precautions. Wherein, we should all take to combat the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. Positive coping mechanisms would include;

  • Exercise
  • Meditation
  • Reading
  • Further developing certain hobbies or skills 

This era is also an opportunity to develop new or even your normal routines that you have adhered to before the COVID-19 pandemic.

6. Stay connected

While in isolation, talking to your loved ones can also help lessen anxiety and instances of feeling down. Take time to use the multitudes of technologies and apps that can help you stay in touch with them. Before the COVID-19, we may have a limited time being connected with distant loved ones, now we can use this opportunity to fully exploit these modern capabilities for camaraderie, companionship, and fellowship.

Please be mindful that being physically active, eating nutritious foods, having enough rest, and taking care of our mental health makes us stronger. However, these things are not a cure for COVID-19.
