Where is Armodafinil used?

Armodafinil is used to reduce great sleepiness due to narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. This includes a period of stopped breathing during sleep or also called obstructive sleep apnea. This may also be used to help you keep wide awake during work hours. If you have a work schedule that keeps you from having a regular sleep routine or shift work disorder.

This is an oral medication that is used to promote wakefulness. This medication belongs to the group of drugs called eugeroics. These are stimulants that provide long-lasting mental awakening. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved this treatment.

How does Armodafinil work?

Modafinil is a type of medicine known as a CNS stimulant that works by stimulating activity within the spinal cord and brain. The technique wherein this medicine improves wakefulness is believed to have an effect on several neurotransmitter systems in the brain. It is mainly in parts of the brain that regulate wake, sleep, and alertness.

The mode of action of this drug appears to be different from other CNS stimulants such as the amphetamine group of medicines that are also sometimes used to promote wakefulness. This difference is believed to reduce Modafinil’s potential for abuse and dependence. However, there may still be a risk of this if Modafinil is used long-term.

How is Armodafinil taken?

The recommended dosage for this medication will depend on your condition and response. This drug is to be taken by mouth with a full glass of water. You may take each dose with or without a portion of food. Take this regularly and as directed by your doctor.

The starting dose for this medication is usually 50 mg to 100 mg each day. The dose can be increased to 200 mg every day depending on your symptoms. This can be given as a single 200 mg dose or divided into two 100 mg doses to be taken in the morning and at lunchtime.

Taking Armodafinildoes not take the place of getting sufficient sleep. Discuss with your doctor if you continue to have too much sleepiness even while taking this medicine. Follow the instructions of your doctor carefully about all your other treatments for this disorder. Do not stop taking it unless it is instructed by your doctor.
